Sault – 10 (Vinyl)

10 is the twelfth studio album from British R&B musical group Sault, released on the band’s own label Forever Living Originals.

Recently the elusive yet prolific UK indie-soul collective Sault, dropped four new songs on the band’s Twitter and Instagram accounts with very few additional details. More recently keeping in line with their tendency to surprise-release albums they went ahead and put a full LP called 10 on streaming services. (After first appearing on Spotify, before being taken down after a few hours, the album is now back on the platform.)

10 begins with the syncopated funk of T.H., which focuses on the healing touch of Gods love over percolating percussion and 80s funk-inspired synths and horns. It moves on to R.L., which tucks into a bit of boogie complete with horns, bass, flute and rhythm guitar as Cleo sings of a real love that cant be beat.

The album continues in this vein, with obvious nods to Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and others throughout as they explore different styles and genres to great success. Along the way are more than a few standouts including the smooth and uplifting K.T.Y.W.S., the brokenhearted beauty of S.I.T.L., the sparse and funky W.A.L. and disco-tinged closer S.O.T.H.

Twelve albums and two EPs in, and Saulthas yet to miss.

Available on Vinyl & CD.
