Facelift is the debut studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released by Columbia Records on August 21, 1990. The tracks “We Die Young”, “Man in the Box”, “Sea of Sorrow” and “Bleed the Freak” were released as singles.

Alice In Chainsare the godfathers of angsty, sludgy, alternative metal that never forget their Black Sabbath roots and their first real emergence onto the scene, for most people, was their 1990 debut full-length Facelift.

Though it clearly lays the groundwork for the dark, tortured Alice in Chains that would be on full display on their 1992 magnum opus Dirt, this album pays homage to the band’s glam rock roots, featuring more melodic, upbeat tracks than usual. This combination of catchy yet heavy and a bit on the darker side would lead to the success of its breakout single, “Man in the Box”.
