avoid!avoid – Particle and Wave (Vinyl)

FN563 avoid!avoid – particle and wave (2016)

avoid!avoidare a band from Auckland, New Zealand, who write droning, textural, sculptural, experimental, psychedelic, krauty music for science fiction films.

While relatively new, the three-piece have already released an EP (Low Earth Orbit) and opened for the likes ofThe FallandHigh Dependency Unit. Now, they are making their recorded debut album in the form ofParticle and Wave. The six track release has been described as “psychospheric goodness” and it is really no surprise considering the band’s line up, featuring keyboardist and vocalistSonya Waters(Fang and White Swan, Black Swan) along with guitaristStephen Reayand drummerBrendan Moranboth from former Flying Nun actThe Subliminals.

“It is krautrock on steroids, the unwavering drum breaks a beefed up version of the German “motorik” sound, the guitar circling around the beat, crunching out fuzzy droning hypno-riffs, the keyboards adding colourful tonal counterpoint and glacial gleam.“5/5 Sunday Star Times
“….an excellent combination of motorik beats and droning guitars with the keyboard forming the backbone; filling out the bottom end and providing saw-toothed squelching highlights”UTR
