“At the end of the day, Tonya Harding was just an ordinary woman with extraordinary talent and a tireless work ethic who set out to do her very best. She did that and more.” Sufjan Stevens had this to say (and more) about the subject of his latest single,Tonya Harding. Thoughmost will know theOlympic figureskater for the tabloid drama and Nancy Kerrigan scandal, Sufjan digs deeper and considers the wholeness of the person that is Tonya Harding. Apparently it has taken the folk singeralmost 30 years to put the song together, and thankfully he has finally done it, withwarmness and grace (plus a little help from Helado Negro and Doveman on production).
